watermarks
A series inspired by the traditional “art” of fortune reading from the watermarks of residue in coffee. In many traditions people try to read the future on the shapes and shadows left behind by the coffee in the cup. Despite my science based education, I was always fascinated by peoples’ focus on this process! The works are the result of experimentation attempting a similar process with paint and water as the watermarks of thick coffee residue in a coffee cup, a natural process with a fair degree of randomness. A scene on which shapes can be imagined and stories can be formed, but also a perspective onto the laws of nature that leave behind their watermark of paint.
